Employee Appreciation = Higher Productivity

Each year the evidence of a high productivity and engaged workforce in relationship to business profitability and customer loyalty becomes more mounting.  Gallup has reported that in a study of 23,910 business units, those in the top quartile for engagement scores averaged 12% higher profitability. The question business leaders must ask as we start planning corporate initiatives for 2014 is – can we find the right mix of recognition and reward to cultivate a lasting culture of recognition that engages employees and drives company success long-term.

Understanding that the most important elements to employee recognition and engagement are found in a blended approach of tangible and non-tangible motivation is the first step in building a culture that reflects the mission and goals of your organization. For instance, a workplace that encourages team collaboration, a non-tangible motivator, is likely to have better problem-solving abilities and therefore higher customer loyalty.  Further, consider the emotional benefit conveyed to an individual who is recognized with a tangible reward by their manager for their problem-solving solutions or innovative ideas, especially if done so in front of their superiors and peers.

As we approach a new year, this is the perfect time for organizations to revisit their blended approach to rewards and recognition.  Soon, business will start fresh with new goals, priorities and projects, so now more than ever is the time to give back to employees and appreciate their year-long contributions.  Giving a memorable gift or reward to recognize their efforts will help employees stay motived through the New Year, especially when the gift is something they can choose for themselves or share with family and friends.

Multi-retailer cards are an example of a motivational gift that allows employees to choose their own experience. They offer a select network of quality retailers that connect the organization’s appreciation to the memorable reward the employee is experiencing.  Additionally, organizations can choose a reward card that includes charity options where employees can donate to a cause that supports their passion and personal beliefs.

Keep in mind that recognition is a year-round process that should occur between peers, manager-to-employee, and executive level downward.  When recognition is hard-coded into the DNA of a business, the result is a culture that is confident, proactive, and delivers better business results.
